About Us

GEOS is a student run club for those with an interest in the Earth and studying BSc and MSc (Applied Geology). We aim to provide students with great networking opportunities, discounts on field equipment, social events and much much more! We are supported by the Curtin Student Guild.

GEOS acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate on, the Whadjuk People of the Noongar Nation. We pay respect to their continuing culture and Elders, past, present and emerging. We recognise the contribution First Nation People make and have made to earth and environmental sciences.

GeoTalks — Capricorn Metals 13th October | Location 403.107 Under Pressure: How High-Stake Industries forge great careers Zachariah John Pallikathekathil (Zach John) is a Principal Geomechanics Engineer (APG) based in Perth, Australia, with 42 years’ total experience (41 years with SLB). He brings deep expertise across geomechanics and integrated subsurface disciplines, including pore pressure prediction, 1D/3D Mechanical Earth Models (MEM), wellbore stability, sanding propensity, compaction/subsidence, and TerraTek rock testing design/QC, with experience applying tools such as Sonic Scanner geomechanics and VISAGE for integrated reservoir geomechanics. He has held a broad mix of technical leadership and management roles (e.g., Geomechanics Team Leader, LWD Domain Champion, Senior Petrophysicist, and multiple operations/data services/marketing/location leadership roles), with assignments across Australia, Indonesia, China, Kuwait, India, Vietnam, and Iran. He holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (IIT Delhi, India 1984) is fluent in English and Hindi, and has 9 publications plus multiple internal/industry recognitions (including project and performance awards). He was the past president of FESAus (Formation Evaluation Society of Australia) and is a current member of the SPE_WA (Society of Petroleum Engineers-WA) Technical Committee. In his free time, he loves gardening, hiking, DIY jobs around the house, Church Bible Study and Church Volunteering. On the day 4:30 pm — Talk kicks off 6:00 pm — Head to the Tav Free entry for members. $5 entry for non-members.

Hi Members, Our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been booked in for 23.10.26 at 5pm in 211.221. ✅ You can still submit a nomination even if you cannot attend the AGM. ❌ However, only members who attend the AGM will be eligible to vote. Eligibility All Ordinary Members are invited to nominate. To be eligible, you must: Be a currently enrolled Curtin student Be a registered member of this club for the current year Committee roles will be elected by a vote of Ordinary Members present at the AGM.  Please RSVP here for catering purposes.
